Today, the members of the Philippine Skating Union were formally acknowledged during the House of Representatives plenary session, held on Feb 6, 2024. 🗓 On Feb 14, the House of Representatives is committed to engaging in discussion regarding the naturalization of Alexander Korovin. For the past 2 years, Alexander, in tandem with his pairs partner, Isabella Gamez, has proudly represented the Philippines on the international skating stage, being the first Southeast Asian pair to qualify for the World Figure Skating Championships. This naturalization process signifies a crucial step forward in support of our pair skaters as they embark on their journey towards the Winter Olympics in 2026. Thank you to Cong. WE DID IT! Isabella and Alexander completed a clean Short Program skate to earn their qualifying scores for the @isufigureskating World Championships in Saitama, Japan from March 20 - 26, 2023. They are the first Southeast Asian and Philippines pairs team ever to qualify at the World Figure Skating Championships. Family is so important to us! @isabellagamez accepted an award on behalf of her late Lolo, Dr. Gilberto Gamez at the 150 Year Celebration of University of Santo Tomas Medical. His unwavering support and effective leadership as Dean of UST Med brought immense pride and glory. He was the first to do many things for the medical community in the Philippines and throughout Asia, inspiring the next generation of doctors, many of whom helped the Philippines through the pandemic. The @hertz_arena has been our home base for pairs figure skating training since early 2021. The first video is from just a few weeks ago to photos of today. This week has special significance to us as we dedicate our first competition to those affected by Hurricane Ian. As many of you know, we have been training at Hertz Arena in Estero, Florida. This last week has been filled with many emotions as Southwest Florida was devastated by Hurricane Ian. Our training facility transformed into a shelter for thousands of people who evacuated their homes, and continues to serve those displaced by Hurricane Ian. Sasha and I have been anxiously awaiting and excited for our first competition, although to be honest, we weren’t sure if we would make it to Finland. My family and friends are safe despite catastrophic damage to SWFL which has been home.
